Project Spotlight: In recognition of National Engineering Month + World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development
In recognition of National Engineering Month and World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, we’ve kickstarted our Project Spotlight Series, and this month, we’re highlighting two projects focused on sustainability and enhancing alternative transportation networks.
Project Spotlight #1: Vancouver Island Rail Corridor
Working with Snaw-Naw-As Nanoose First Nation and their partners, we explored how the Island Rail Corridor (formerly known as the E&N Rail Corridor) could be strategically reimagined, identifying realistic opportunities for active, recreational, and alternative transportation uses that could reconnect communities and support sustainable travel across the region.
Tyler Thomson, Bunt’s Project Manager, says: “We were honoured to work with Snaw-Naw-As and their partners to explore how this historic rail corridor can be reimagined for active and alternative transportation and once again become a conduit for building and supporting thriving economies on Vancouver Island. By building on existing infrastructure and looking at strategic opportunities, we identified realistic options to reconnect communities and support more low carbon, multi-modal travel choices into the future.”
Project Spotlight #2: Peace River Active Transportation Plan
Our team worked with the Town of Peace River to develop an Active Transportation Plan aimed at improving walking, cycling, and multi-use connections to key community destinations. Through site visits, stakeholder consultations, and public engagement, we identified opportunities to make active transportation more practical and appealing for residents. The resulting plan provides a clear roadmap for near-term projects and long-term network growth, helping the Town prioritize improvements and access funding for sustainable transportation initiatives.
Catherine Oberg, Principal, says: “This plan gives the Town a clear, actionable path forward – one that supports healthier travel choices, stronger connectivity, and a more sustainable transportation network over time.”
We’re very excited to continue contributing to sustainable transportation projects across Western Canada.
