Honouring David Tam: Supporting the Next Generation of Transportation Leaders
Bunt has long been proud to support young Canadian transportation professionals through ITE Canada’s David Tam Memorial Award since 2021. This year, we are continuing that commitment alongside The Future Transportation Leaders Fund (the Fund) and ITE Canada District by launching a new Professional Development Bursary, in honour of our dear colleague and friend, David Tam.
Sponsored by Bunt, this bursary is designed to empower emerging leaders in the transportation sector by supporting their continued learning and growth. Each year, two $2,500 bursaries will be awarded to assist with costs related to professional development activities, including training programs, certifications, conferences, workshops, or other learning opportunities that enhance skills and leadership potential in transportation.
With a donation of $25,000, representing a $5,000 annual contribution for an extendable five-year period, we are proud to be recognized on the Fund’s Donor Wall of Honour – Trailblazer, reflecting our ongoing support of young professionals in shaping the future of transportation.
This new bursary aligns precisely with what David Tam stood for in his work and life, and what Bunt as a firm seeks to continue to represent. David came from Hong Kong to Vancouver in 1994 with a wealth of knowledge in transportation engineering. He was an instrumental part of Bunt & Associates from the early days through to his retirement in 2013, serving as a Principal and CFO, and as a mentor, partner, skilled consultant, and friend to all. Continuing education played an important role in building David’s career. His passing in 2020 left a hole not only within Bunt, but within the industry at large.
With the David Tam Memorial Award, now evolved to the Professional Development Bursary in honour of David Tam, Bunt wishes to continue his legacy by nurturing and supporting the next generation of transportation professionals, helping them grow into skilled, confident, and inspired leaders in the field.
Applications are now open and submissions are due March 1, 2026. For more information, please visit ITE Canada’s Professional Development Bursary page.
